The Pangolin is one of the most fascinating and misunderstood creatures on Earth. Covered in tough keratin scales — the same substance found in human nails — it’s the only mammal with a full body armor. When threatened, it curls up into a tight ball, making it look just like a football.

Pangolins are nocturnal insect-eaters, feeding mostly on ants and termites. With an extremely long tongue that can stretch beyond their own body length, a single pangolin can eat millions of insects each year, helping to naturally balance forest ecosystems.

But despite their importance, pangolins are now the most trafficked mammals in the world. Hunted for their scales and meat, all eight species of pangolins are now threatened or endangered. Their story is a reminder of how human greed can endanger even the most unique creations of nature.
