In this episode of "500 Years of..." we cover 500 Years of Scottish Fashion! I interview friend and fashion historian @Lilja Husmo, who specialises in both Scottish and Norwegian fashion history. She shares her plethora of knowledge about the fascinating topic of Scottish clothing from around the 1420s until the 1920s.

My primary mission with this series is to share knowledge from specialists and historians about lesser-known parts of fashion history. I think it's vital to give fashion a voice outside of the scope of English and American clothing. There is so much we can learn from the rich culture and clothing practices of many places, including Celtic countries such as Scotland.

Lilja not only talks about some of the differences between lowlands and highlands fashion throughout these 500 years, she also sheds light on the myth of clan tartans and how exactly that came to be. She discusses elements such as the appearance of kilts, trews (truis), and arasaids (earasaids) as a part of Scottish fashion, along with historical events such as the Act of Prescription and King George IV's visit to Scotland.

I hope you will enjoy watching this episode and that it teaches you something new about Scottish clothing!

Yours, etc.
