Ballet requires a lot of ankle and foot flexibility, particularly if you are learning pointe work. Stretching and strengthening your feet are of course important. However, some people will still struggle to achieve enough foot and ankle flexibility with the standard exercises. If this is you, then check out this exercise. This exercise will help to improve your pointe range by working on the end range mobility and strength - that is building strength and range of motion at your current limit. This will gradually allow you to lengthen your muscles and joints at the same time as improving your stability. The end result is pointier, more stable and less injury prone feet.
Many students with decreased point range turn to foot stretchers, but they can be dangerous and can cause real problems with foot and ankle pain. They can even lead to serious long-term damage! Please stay away from any device or stretches that force your feet and ankle. It's really not worth it.
