Correcting overgrown dog nails. ????????
To be honest idk why the vet here recommended I stop cutting them while she recovered. But I listened because I was so worried about her spine. Now her nails are way too long and not healthy which means they can cause joint issues in her paws and legs.
Upon chatting to her old vet in seattle this AM, they told me to resume cutting every 5-7 days until the quick reduces back to a normal length. So that’s what we’ll be doing until her nails are back at a healthy length.
Let this be a reminder to trim your pup’s nails every 3-4 weeks. I think a lot of people have the mindset that the dog’s nails will get “naturally” filed by walking outside but the truth is they’d have to be spending hours a day running rough terrain to maintain a health nail length. So make sure you’re on top of it!
