For these prisoners - simply sporting a gang-related tattoo was sufficient to earn a 20-year jail sentence as El Salvador cracked down on gang violence.

Alongside the symbols of allegiance, and the names of girlfriends and children they would never again see, they depicted images of devil worship and ritual slaughter.
