alien [ˈeɪlɪən]: belonging to a foreign country; unfamiliar and disturbing or distasteful.

This is a dictionary definition of the adjective. And yet: is it completely true? There is probably another angle to the matter. A colorful, aggregative one, based on the idea that diversity is a force, but also a fuel; that diversity is sexy.

What if aliens were hot?

GCDS, whose mascot Wirdo, the pink alien, has been there from the very beginning, calls for its alien nation of weirdos: an endangered species that’s an entire generation, living submerged, in permanent transit, looking for itself in a world in constant change. Never underestimate the power of a minority gathering to have a good time, bonding in a club, joining forces on the dancefloor, showing proudly their true, individual colors.
As totalitarian urges keep creeping, being oneself, even just to dance, even just to sparkle and amaze, becomes an inherently political act. Such politics, however, do not erase the good time. Rather, they amplify it, adding further meaning.

Giuliano Calza leads the posse of the GCDS aliens, imagining a surreal alien summer in a surreal disco alien club, and the apt attire to live it: skimpy swimwear, skintight catsuits like glaring second skins, glistening sequins that make surfaces dewy, motocross gear in bright hues, lurex and rib knit aplenty, fluorescence and sparkle. A vision as psychedelic as SpongeBob Squarepants, one of the most iconic Paramount’s brand which appears as an extravagant epitome. It’s a posse of alien club kids, towering on massive platforms, faces painted in multiple colors, expressing the idea that being different is an opportunity, and that minorities must be protected in order to progress.

The feeling of being alien is a common one. Sometimes we feel alien in the places once were home. GCDS turns this feeling into a joyous force, embracing everyone’s colors.
