“How do you workout with your nails???”
I’ve been rocking long natural nails since 2018 all the while lifting weights and believe it or not, rarely break a nail! Here’s how:
Use a strong product
Normal gel won’t cut it and personally hard get lifts too easily. I like poly-gel and dip powder. They are like armor for your natural nails.
Your nails aren’t tools
Avoid using them at all costs. Use the edge of a spoon to open cans and don’t open packaging/tape/boxes with them. 100% of my nail breaks are curtesy of my laziness and not getting my box cutter.
Avoid water
I’m an aggressive hand washer, but I try to wear gloves while doing dishes, cooking, and cleaning. Water dries your nails out while also making them soft and brittle and susceptible to breakage.
Moisturize
Cuticle oil and a good moisturizer are critical! Especially after touching all those drying weights and chalk.
Be mindful of using your hands
When I’m in the gym I always make sure I look before grabbing something. While it’s unlikely I’ll bang my hand hard enough to break a nail, they can chip and scratch.
Shape matters
Stiletto, coffin or super pointy nails have points that are more likely to chip. When I did super pointy nails I’d end up with the end of my pointer chipping off. Almond tends to be the strongest for long nails. It has body to prevent it from bending and the gentle curve prevents chipping.
