Step into Camelot for an unforgettable evening in Princess Grace Kelly’s childhood home in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia to learn about two of the most famous Irish immigrant families in American history: the Kennedys and the Kellys.

Hosted by Rosenbach Board of Directors members Gage Johnston and Thi Phan, this immersive, lively party began with Celtic harp, 1960s pop hits, and an elegant wine and hors d’oeuvres reception in the stately public rooms of Grace Kelly’s house, which was recently purchased and restored by her son, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco. We then settled into the cozy drawing room for a conversation with Irish Studies scholar Mary Burke, author of Race, Politics, and Irish America: A Gothic History (Oxford University Press 2023). Professor Burke and Dr. Alexander Lawrence Ames, the Rosenbach’s Director of Outreach & Engagement, discussed the unexpected connections between the Kellys and the Kennedys, comparing their cultural contexts and afterlives, and placing them in the perspective of Irish immigration history.

This program was presented in collaboration with the Princess Grace Irish Library in Monte Carlo (Monaco) as part of a collaboration focused on the Philadelphia connections and Irish heritage of Princess Grace. For other programs, visit rosenbach.org/events.
