The first few seconds of a tattoo are all about feeling out the skin.

I’m using a 3 round liner and starting soft, with light back-and-forth strokes.

This avoids blowouts and keeps the lines from looking too harsh.

It’s a great technique for realism, giving you a subtle fade that blends with shading.
