This ballet was choreographed by Sir Frederick Ashton for the occasion of a gala at Covent Garden for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977. The music Ashton used is Franz Liszt’s Symphonic Poem No. 10 (‘Hamlet’), S 104.
Though the program notes give the ballet as ‘Hamlet Prelude’, Ashton intended the ballet to be called ‘Hamlet and Ophelia’.
The dancers here are Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev.
Enjoy!
